Lantern — Terms & Conditions

Last updated 13 August 2026

In plain terms: use Lantern on your site as much as you like. It's provided as-is, we can't promise it will never break, and our liability is limited to what you paid us. Uninstall any time.

1. Who you're agreeing with

Lantern is a search app published by Lucency (“we”, “us”), operated from Iceland. By installing or using Lantern on your site, you (“you”, the site owner) agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, uninstall the app.

2. What Lantern does

Lantern adds a search box to your site and answers searches by reading your store catalogue in real time. It keeps no copy of your data and stores nothing about your visitors. See the privacy policy for detail.

3. Your licence to use it

You may install and use Lantern on any site you own or manage, for as long as these terms are in force. You may not resell it, redistribute it, decompile it, or attempt to extract its source in order to build a competing product.

4. Your responsibilities

5. Availability

We aim for Lantern to work reliably, but we don't offer a guaranteed uptime commitment. Lantern depends on your site platform's own services, and if those are slow or unavailable, search will be too. That's outside our control.

6. Changes to the app

We may add, change or remove features over time. If we ever remove something significant that you depend on, we'll say so in the release notes rather than quietly dropping it.

7. Price and payment

Lantern is currently free. If a paid tier is introduced later, existing free functionality will not be moved behind a paywall without notice, and any billing would run through your site platform's own payment system, not ours.

8. No warranty

Lantern is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We don't warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that search results will always be complete or correct.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost sales, lost data, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Lantern. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us for Lantern in the twelve months before the claim, or €50.

10. Ending this agreement

You can end it at any time by uninstalling the app. We may suspend or end access if these terms are being breached, or if we discontinue the app entirely. On termination, Lantern's access to your site ends immediately.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Iceland, and any dispute will be handled by the Icelandic courts.
